Yeah, who needs perfection in the orchids we grow in our own homes just for the pleasure of having them around. An occasional weird or unusual one makes things interesting. I think your unique Paph is very cool.

My bad for using the term "mutant". I do regard this as just a developmental issue.

Technically, One would have to do a genetic analysis to determine whether a mutation is involved. Either way, at least we agree that it is not due to poor culture, which is the important thing. And the plant will probably produce normal flowers at least most of the time.

I think it would be neat to breed double Paphs.

It has been done in the 1920's with cattleyas , as recorded in Volume I P. 7 of Carl L. Withner's "The Cattleyas and Their Relatives".

its a peloric paph. some do breed odd paphs. Orchid Zone used to have a collection of double and triple pouched paphs. Strangely odd indeed to come from a seed.

It could also be caused by a Colchicine Treatment. Colchicine is a chemical that is often used to induce polyploidy in plants. Basically, the colchicine prevents the microtubule formation during cell division, thus the chromosomes do not pull apart like they normally do. Because chromosomes function as the blueprint directing all cellular functions, they cause twice as much size, twice as much petal thickness or twice as much petal in your case. In most instances, the net effect on the plant grows slower Because there is twice as much genetic material to copy each time a cell divides, growth takes longer. Leaves tend to be broader and thicker.
Polyploids cannot breed fertile offspring with normal diploid plants and i bet that plant is sterile. Enjoy it

That's awesome. Really unique. Especially if it is more than one flower. Too bad it's not more predictable.
