What a great poem! I really had to laugh. How very generous of her and you to share the poem.

You're so welcome! When I first discovered the poem, I was living in a condo, which I bought before I "discovered" orchids. And which was already getting rather full. (A nastygram from the Association about moss growing on my front steps from all my watering finally pushed me over the edge a few years later, and I bought a house with a yard. )

If you look at my original post, I referenced specifically terete- leaved Vandas (leaves are round in cross section, like a string bean). Vandas with flat leaves may do OK but you will need to change your growing conditions to provide high light and wetting the roots at least daily, while still allowing roots to drain freely.

Must I really adhere to this now?

I have been watering all of my plants outside of my Phals. on more of a weekly schedule or when the pots were light in weight and/or the wood skewers pulled out dry.

I try to provide adequate lighting by each species requirement, nothing professional nursery-like but small time hobbyist indoor compatable.

If the plants are growing and blooming, don't change what you are doing (If it isn't broken, don't fix it) If something isn't doing well, that's the time to adjust after figuring out what needs to be modified for that one. Remember, orchids don't usually do anything fast (including die...the challenge is that by the time they show distress, it may be too late.) But do give any changes time to take effect... months, not days. Orchids teach patience.

Charles, after close to 40 years it is a lesson I am still learning. I believe orchids are also patient teachers. Sadly, some do give their lives for us to learn.
