Stop fertiliser distribution ... when?
Default Stop fertiliser distribution ... when?

During a complete vegetation cycle when do you stop the fertiliser distribution? (if this is necessary of cause!). I presume it is before the flowering but at which state of development of the shoot or of the spathe.
I am not using a bloom booster fertiliser but a 3-1-2.
I ask this question because I have observed that some of my Cattleya have aborted their flowering this year.

Hi
I fertilize mine all year ,but I grow under lights and inside my Kitchen,so they stay warm all year round.
Only the cold ,dry winter resting Den's I have ,do not get any fertilizer .
I use 20-20-20 and bloom buster when I see new growths starting ,once it's done growing ,I go back to 20-20-20

Much depends on which genera you are growing and where, as some orchids require a dry rest so you are not watering or fertilizing. I have cool growers and I fertilize with MSU all year long, just decreasing the amount in the cold winter months as well as watering less often.

I use an 11-35-15, at 1/4 recommended strength, about every other week during the warm months when plants are outdoors (for me, April through October). Frequency decreases to once a month or less when the plants move indoors.

A friend that grows large, beautiful Cattleyas says he almost never fertilizes, maybe just once a year.

My goal (sometimes not achieved) is also to provide calcium, magnesium, and sulfur (dissolved gypsum and Epsom salts) at approximately weekly intervals throughout the year.
