Cold weather PISSES ME OFF!
Does anybody else just want to SCREAM at this point in the winter???? Well, you are not alone! I feel so badly that I can't provide the warm, sunny, humid conditions that my orchids need so badly by this point in the season. All of my dendrobiums are starting their spring growth, and I'm worried they will have a weak start if their growth advances too much before May 15th. (the first surely safe day to put plants outside in PA) I am trying not to water so much too keep them at bay! While we are getting a bit more light and a few temperate days, the lack of sunshine and warmth always starts to rear its ugly head through February. I know that my plants know what they are doing and things have always worked out in the past, but there are always one or two that don't bloom as beautifully as I know they are capable of doing (usually due to a slow start in the spring)! Someday I'll just have to build a greenhouse!!! BOOOOOOOO to winter!!!!!!

I agree! I live in northeast Ohio, and although my home has lots of big east-facing windows, my plants get almost no light because it is always cloudy and my skylights are buried under snow. I have to supplement with fluorescent lights.

It has been warmer than usual this winter. I guess its the gloomyness that bothers me more that the temperature. My catts seem a bit darker green than they were in the summer, or maybe I'm just imagining it because I prefer sunnier weather and I can't imagine they are getting enough light. I know I'm not.

I think I know what you mean in regards to bad weather it is middle of summer here in Sydney and so far this month it has rained for 8 days with the forecast for 10 more days of rain to come.
Australia is in the middle of the worst drought in 100 years but it sure rains a lot in my neck of the woods!!!!!
I feel for you the temp here rarely gets low enough for frost, yet I feel gloomy not sure if I could handle cold as well. Hope your weather improves

I don't do most Dendros or large, "floofy orchids". For me it's minis (like Angraecoides), Masdies, Paphs, and others that crept in somewhere along the line. See my orchid list for complete collection (usually not current.)

I know how you all feel. This sucks. Whats even worse is I moved last Aug and stressed out ALL of my plants. I never thought they would take it that bad....but I managed to piss them all off enough that 90% my mature plants sent up spikes and flowered. Even the ones that shouldn't have done it til late winter, early spring through summer. So now I feel like i have nothing to look forward to!

Hey Ross, Thanks alot! Your cold temps are coming this way for tomorrow. We are having a snowstorm again now, then your winds and frigid temps follow. Frankly, you can keep this stuff right there in Michigan and let us Mainers warm up a bit.
Can't catch my breath around here with this stupid weather! Although, I have to admit, the snow coming down now is mighty pretty. Please please please keep the cold and winds to yourself! kiki
