I find that adding either aquarium gravel or lava rock helps with drainage and roots are in better shape. How much depends on the species. I had a SanBar Catt in granite, it grew just fine.

You want evidence that Cattleya percivaliana can grow as a lithophyte…

I got curious about your question and wanted to find any in-situ photos.

I found one.

In the photo is the owner of Canaima Orchids with a colony of Cattleya percivaliana.

What kind of rock it is - again, I don't know for certain.

I still don't know with 100% certainty what kind of rocks Cattleya percivaliana grows on, but I have reason to believe it might be some sort of igneous rock, (rocks of volcanic origins) - probably some kind of granite, idk.

years ago, I had a phal laying around in the greenhouse I had then, it was laying next to an old handmade brick that was in there for something or another....next thing I knew, that phal was firmly ROOTED on and in the brick, lol....it lived there happily for many years.....you never know!
