Just my perception, but there appear to be issues with an absentee owner...

Where to begin... with what? If you have something to say, please do so. I already specifically quoted and addressed your statements that I take issue with. Why should I dig through the forums for your posts on other topics when you can't be bothered to post anything here but terse remarks that sound very dismissive? Maybe I'm misinterpreting your tone, and if so I apologize-- the internet is tricksy that way-- but the "planetary scale" comment and this one seem to border on mockery.

What do the photos in your post signify, exactly? Looks interesting, but some context would be helpful.

I think the club would be happy to have anyone by to take a look. Though they aren't necessarily growing orchids, they are growing a wide variety of crops.
That's awesome! I am hoping to find some programs of that sort in my area-- of all places, you'd think the San Francisco bay area would be a good spot to find people working on this. Fingers crossed!

All I initially stated was that you should keep your expectations realistic You did indeed misinterpret my intent, which in and of itself is small matter. However when you took your misinterpretation and ran with it in the manner in which you did, being first and foremost a fish person (which includes being a fisherman) I fell back on old habits and let you have all the line you wanted. The comment about planetary scale was said half in jest, but is very germane to the conversation. The pictures are of two systems I'm currently working on which are functioning on the principles under discussion. I have previously discussed them here and will continue to do so in the future as they evolve. The only thing here I'm dismissive of is an attitude such as the one you took when you thought I was questioning you. You really shouldn't be so thin skinned!

I'm not a fish. I'm just interested in having a detailed discussion, and my posts quite often tend to be very long-- that's not me being upset, it's just my personality and desire to exchange (lots of) information. I don't mind being questioned-- if the questions are specific and constructive.

I'd like to hear more about your systems, it's hard to tell much about them from the pictures-- some kind of terrarium, in one?

Never underestimate the power of fish poo! It's pretty much magic. I haven't used it on orchids yet because mine are currently indoors and I don't want to stink up the house. One the weather is better and I can take some outdoors I will give it a shot.

However I did use it on my newly planted roses and they grew to 6ft tall in 2 years with a crazy amount of blooms that were between 5-6 inches in diameter.

But personally I would not keep koi in water depth of less than 3-4 feet. My pond is 4+ feet and if I ever need to replace the pond liner, I will dig the pond even deeper. Good pond depth is really key to a good quality of life for them.

Default Aquaponics

I have done a lot of research on this and have a few books. There are a few inner city companies that are successfully doing this these days. Growing enough food to sell and producing enough Tilapia to sell as well. I have been experimenting with it on a small scale and it takes a lot of work/mistakes before you get it right. A guy I know has two hot tub tanks built into his green house that he is using to do aquaponics on a larger scale, but it seems as though something always goes wrong in the cycle somewhere. Good luck!
