2 Questions About Phalaenopsis or Phalaenopsis/Denbrobiums. Male
Default 2 Questions About Phalaenopsis or Phalaenopsis/Denbrobiums.

Hello all,

I didn't know where to ask this question, in the beginners section or the advanced section. But I have, what I presumed was a NOID Phal., but recently I noticed that there was a "new growth" sprouting off the main body of the plant. And was wondering if...

1. Can Phalaenopsis a new growth on the main body of the plant??

Or

2. Is it posibol for a Phal. And a Den. to mix and if so that mix produce a new growth.

I got the orchid when it was out of bloom, so I don't know what the flowers look like.

I'll post a picture of the orchid and its "new growth" here Ina little bit.

Thank you all. ^_^

Certainly. It's is known as a "basal keiki", and is often the result of the crown of the main plant being damaged.

However, in this case, the main plant looks OK, and the basal growth looks like it has had some issue with rot, likely due to water standing inside the folds.

The answer to that is "No". Phalaenopsis and dendrobiums cannot interbreed. If you have read about a "Dendrobium phalaenopsis", that is the name for a dendrobium whose flower resembles that of a phalaenopsis.

Thank you. ^_^. I'll try to keep the growth from getting water in it from now on. Thanks. ^_^

I've heard of Basel keikis but I thought they...can't find the word...grown from the center?...know what I mean??

Ok. I didn't know if they can interbreed or not. Thanks for that tidbit. ^_^
