I don't think we have to keep these in those "sauna like" conditions. I was doing the same with the first one and it did not like it at all. Been adding more light gradually and watering with a very fine mist. Water more but in much less volume! Went with you're advice and started giving a gentle air flow. Although it has been only day's can tell this is better. Much to learn on my part for sure!Really like the spanish moss provides a little protective microclimate.I do not dunk mine completly in the water anymore. Too much water on mine at first. How are you'res doing? I do believe at some point you will be able to grow outside. That would be great to get them out where they can be appreciated even more!!!

About how long does the spike get? I think im about to go buy a bald cypress and try and bonsai it, and add a little baby ghost to it. But we'll see about that. I have a few bald cypress seedlings, but i cant wait 7 more years for it to put on a decent size trunk to even start with.

sounds like an awesome idea Gold (if it works), do people in bonsai ever put leafless orchids on their bonsai? Even a more hardy leafless species would be interesting because it could simulate the roots of a fig or something in miniature..

martin: good to hear yours is happy, mine are all happy on the most part, funnily enough a few little root tips folded up in on themselves, and they were the outermost roots, so i actually moved mine back a bit in the tank to get a little less direct air.. other than that they're all green and happy.

I got a mould invasion in one of the replate flasks (like i predicted), so i had to abort that flask, do a quick disinfect and i put those plants in with the rest. One of them introduced a bit of the mould (cobweb i believe it was), but that is now under control.

All in all pretty happy, will watch them closely though.

Oh yeah as an experiment, i chucked a couple of the smallest ones just on top of the sphagnum moss in the Phal pots in my bathroom. They look fine so far, will be interesting to see if they actually survive there

Umm i've never seen any other plants like epiphytes grown on bonsai. I sure think it would be cool to get one going, but then it would make it disproportional, but then, it could be a bit larger of a bonsai, because there is no set height limit, i believe. but as for my plan i might just go find a trunk, my wish it to find a nice looking bald cypress trunk, but there anrn't much of those local, so i might just go to the lake, on a friends land, and spend a day looking for suitable trunk pieces.

Don't worry, it can handle some wind...but it likes high light! Mine were slowly diminishing and sickly-looking until I put them outside, three weeks ago. They've been in full Fla. sun and wind, in my back yard (which is on a lake, so it gets good wind) since then.....and they have gotten greener and more robust, all with new growth! This is the first new growth it's had since I got it! we were discussing it in one of Martin's threads:ODD thing with Polyrrhizza

I was wondering what do you use to take care of the mold? Dont have problem yet but at some point I will have to deal with this.

Pool algaecide (10%) mixed at 1 part algaecide to 250 parts water.

I use a percent of household bleach in water for just about anything mould related, from 1% bleach w/w in sensitive situations, to 10% bleach w/w in general cleaning... but mould is a symptom, not a problem, better to fix your setup so mould doesn't occur than to live with mould. And mould only really attacks dead or dying plant tissue so its less of a problem with happy plants.

Thanks, going down to the local pet store the fellow is going to let me look through his used supplies. Hope to find a nice aquarium to modify. Have decieded to make a place where the humidity is constant. Would like to install misters but they are so expensive. Any thoughts on homemade misting set-ups?
