lol interesting, that is possible. But i'm sure they literally just eat the bloom as i had another incident on another Vanda 4n; ate half of an entire petal, and keep in mind these blooms are 5 inches. I'll sort out their business though, no worries. lol

I also had problems with lizards ... not that they were eating the orchid buds or young shoots ... but they slept at night on the flower and young shoot stalks, braking them at times and generally being a physical problem to slender growths. So, I got myself a vicious lizard hunting cat. Thus all lizards are now gone and the only problem I presently have is that the male cat - get a female one instead - now pisses on the plant pots and wrecks the growing media and doing more damage to the orchid´s welfare. There must be some sort of obeah curse on my orchids. Cure? Grow cactus.

They do have mucous membranes. I think the pepper might work a bit, they like green pepper, but that's not hot. You can either make a spray on, with traditional tabasco or other hot sauce, or make a thicker paste in a blender with whole peppers and paint it on, or sprinkle dry powder on when still wet with dew.

If that doesn't work, physical protection is your only option.
Best of luck with it.
You could also try adding garlic to this. It's great for keeping insects away as well.

I can't believe it !! I wait for like three months after cutting the stem seeing it grow so pretty and then it's almost gone ?! What's gonna happen??

If they ate the spike then that's most likely it for the spike, your going to have to wait until a new spike emerges, i'm sorry to say.

These damn lizards can be a nuisance indeed. It seems that the consensus on this thread is that methods such as powdered pepper sprinkled on damp plant or even a hot pepper paste applied to the stem and even garlic will keep them away.......it seems that they also hate cotton or gauze; so get creative

I wonder what would happen if you made a pepper paste and just painted a small stripe around the OUTSIDE of the pot. Maybe it would keep them from getting in the pots at all.
