Looking for kelp/seaweed powder - Orchid Board

I have had AMAZING success with using Gro-more's Seaweed Extract: Seaweed

But I'm concerned with paying for water, and I've had a small problem with mold growing around the mouth and on the inside of the cap of the container.

Does anybody use a powdered form of Kelp or Seaweed that they like? I know Neptune's Harvest makes some, but it has added fertilizer that I don't want.

I like you got tired of paying for "water", and I fertilize my orchids often enough that it was getting expensive to ship 1 gallon jugs of fertilizer.

I buy Maxicrop soluble seaweed powder. I'ts great--although a little messy (the flakes stick everywhere). There's another company that sells Seaweed powder as well.

The best price I've found online is at biconet.com.

Yeah! Even with this stuff I'm already using, I can't BELIEVE the root growth I've been getting! And leaf and lead growth in general. I've noticed that it keeps my outdoor garden plants from getting quite as wilty in the hot sun as well.

Oh, no problem. I saw those listings for seaweed powder on ebay but I was a little leery of buying something without "proper" packaging.

The biconet place is really good. They ship fast. I priced the Maxicrop on ebay, and it comes out cheaper on biconet, even with the shipping.

I'm on my second bag--so I'm not exactly sure how long I've been using it. I use it every time I fertilize at the ratio of 1 tsp per gallon, along with MSU (but I lowered the amount of MSU to keep the N ratio under control), some epsom salts and 3cc of liquor. I'm like you--I found the liquid form of seaweed too messy and well, it started to mold.

I've not had any negative side effects that I can tell. The root balls I see forming are amazing though. I can't believe such a little change in my fertilizing method has made such a huge difference.

Awesome, thanks for your input Maria. As soon as I finish up the bottle I have, I'll order from biconet.

I do kind of like the "at the beach" smell when I water with this liquid stuff though.

brings back summer vacation memories at Galveston...

Just saying- the liquid seaweed from Gro-more WORKED great, especially for someone with a small collection like mine. If it was all I could get, I would stick with it.

Which is the preferred product being used, Maxicrop soluble seaweed powder, Stress-X powder or Algamin kelp meal?

I use the Maxicrop soluble seaweed powder.

I'll be interested to see what your results are if you decide to use it, since you live in Florida and our growing conditions are similar-ish.
