Has anyone read the book, "How To Win Friends and Influence People", by Dale Carnegie? It's a pretty good book, & I'm thinking about re-reading just to pick up some more tips....

MissMolly-
You are well entitled to your opinion and you state some very valid points. Many I was not aware of, some that I have questions about but I see nothing wrong with "me too", "good job" or "thanks for sharing". I believe that is called agreement, support, courtesy and graciousness. 'Hi ya' is a form of personal acknowledgement. I do not agree that is cyberpollution. Cyberpollution, to me is spammers, phishers, scammers, predators and the like.
I think and feel people are here to share, in an excited and positive manner, their experiences that may or may not be successful, in the exchange of material for the benefit of everyone and in the gushing (is that what you meant by drooling and slobbering?) over their long awaited botanical blooms. (Which they so rightly deserve to do.)
I don't see what brown-nosing has to do with anything here as it is by definition - "praise somewhat dishonestly with the intention of getting something" according to thefreedictionary.com.
What is wrong with this forum serving as a social network? Isn't that what it is? Anyone can read books and surf the internet for information online. Does the forum have to be so cut and dry, so bland and boring in serving us as a place only for information? This is an exchange between people with personality, life, humor and passion about something they love that can be read in their posts. That is something I look forward to and welcome.

Well, here I go with my two Canadian cents....My personal opinion is that this board is great, friendly and willing to provide encouragement. The atta boys, great job etc. is acknowledgement which is so helpfull if you are a new grower and well, darned pleased with your blooms. We all know nothing is (or not much) better than that first spike on a plant that you were sure wouldn;t do anything but just had to try. Everyone has an opinion and no one should be shy of giving it but positive spins on a topic accomplish so much more....

One other thing, to the Boxer supporters, if you mean dogs, well, let me tell you PAPILLIONS TOTALLY RULE!!

Dorothy, very nicely put and I'm in total agreement with all of your points. Like you said, everyone is entitled to their opinion and what fun would it be if no one stated it? Thats how we gain information on this forum. But whether missmolly realized it or not her post came off as offensive to some of us because of how it was stated. I like this forum on the whole because of all the people that give praise and encouragement to others. I certainly wouldn't call it brown-nosing! I know that where I live there are no nearby orchid societies or even anyone in my town that I personally know that grows orchids. When someone down the street comes over they don't drool over my collection. They don't even know what they are looking at! Thats why I love it on here. I have a bunch of orchid lovers that will give me a sense that I'm not alone in my crazy hobby! I just wanted to add my thoughts on the subject. Also maybe check out Composting | Wastes | US EPA because whatever your thoughts on manures and such you can't argue with the impact you can make if you compost! And when you buy manure and bat guano it is already composted and aged so is safe to use in your garden. At least all the ones I have personally seen for sale.

Thank goodness some on this forum debunked this new found ripoff.
it always surprises me how many think that there are no new ways to do something. they think that the only way to do something is the way they read it to be done 50 years ago. the person lisa learned about the worm tea is jerry meola on the orchid geeks. if you wonder who he is, he is a commercial grower in florida who is currently working with the vital earth people on doing more testing with orchids. these people have a very unique way of producing this product. believe it or not they actually do not live in a shanty in the swamps molly. i believe that they are rather highly educated people who have spent years perfecting this method before offering it to the public. so lisa herself may not have all the answers you have been looking for before she posted her comments on this product, but i have never read a post from you that really offered any information to actually help someone here to grow anything except the urge to maybe leave and find a more friendlier forum. you posted some names about home gardening do they actually have any facts that there methods work or is it another scam to get your money. in my business they show norm abrahm building cabinets in a half hour when in reality it takes much more time than he shows but the public goes for it. the point is that anyone can write a book or do a show and have people jump on the band wagon and praise them i mean hey look you bought his book. maybe next time before bashing someone for trying something new do a little research on the material then and only then you should make your comments to them. i think lisa should be proud that she made a effort in trying a new way to do something that has so many different options out there, and when it works she should hold her head up high and be proud that a new member actually offered some new advice. and by the way you can burn a plant with your so called weed and seed waste how do i know cause i did it trying a experiment with horse manure that is 3 years old.

Like Lisa, I've had good results with it. I stopped fertilizing my phals about two months ago when I switched to worm tea. I usually use it as a foliar spray and sometimes pour a little on the roots and into the s/h reservoir. All of them have grown new leaves and roots.
