Has anyone ever succesfully mounted on stone?

I was wondering if anyone has ever mounted on a rock/stone, if so i'd like to see some photographs as i was going to try it out on a small division.

I have heard of people in Austrailia growing Dendrobiums mounted on rocks but cannot remember where. I know my Den-phals love the river gravel they are in. I would love to hear about someone having success with this as I was thinking of trying it as well.

I have mounted a Neofinetia falcata on a small stone.
It was growing in sphagnum moss but i just had to try if it was possible to grow it another way
I keep it in a terrarium and its been about 4 months and at least nine new roots are growing out now.

I'll be trying it in a while i suppose, going to find some large chunks of coarse stone, or maybe 1-2 larger rocks and put them in a transparent container and let a porpax division grow on it

I once saw a vendor who had about 3 Neofinetias mounted on a silver grey mount. The rock is porous and his simply sculpted out a small bit and sat the roots atop the rock. He then had the entire thing sitting in about 4 inches of water. I subsequently saw the same rock at a local home improvement store ... Home Depot cost about $15 Cdn. I bought it but haven't put it to use yet. The tag simply read Rock Silver Grey 12 - 18 "

Hi Jeff -
Every December, someone from another society brings a Max. uncata that is mounted on a slab of concrete to our classes - it is happy, beautiful. Unwieldy and heavy, of course. I think there is no moss or other medium, but the concrete is covered in algae and other green slime. Still, you cannot argue with success.

p.s. my friend put some Den. loddigesii on an upturned tufa bowl (made of cement mix and peat moss). She uses a buffer to raise the pH when water and fertilizer are added, as the concrete is pretty alkaline.
