Question Phalaenopsis help: seems like 2 keikis and a spike, plus new leaves

Hi everyone!!

I think my large phalaenopsis is producing 2 keikis at the base of the plant, plus, it's growing out a spike. It's also not finished growing out 2 new leaves.....

Should I worry that the plant is trying to do too much at the same time????? I don't want the plant over-stressed.

Your suggestions are welcome.

I usually just fertilize a little more as it takes alot of energy to grow and bloom.

I don't think the plant would be doing all of that growing if it didn't have the energy to do it. I have one phal that loves to multi task like that, and even though it does that almost every year it's still a nice healthy plant. As long as you water and fertilize it properly it probably won't suffer at all.

Hi guys,

Thanks for your replies. Here are some pictures of the plant in question. It's a Phal. Barbara Baldan's Mandarin 'Fancy'. Thanks.

The plant looks big and healthy, so should be fine. Sometimes Phals do crazy things like that. I had several Phals growing more than one leaf at the same time, which is unusual for them. I also have a crazy Phal. equestris keiki whose largest leaf is about 2 inches and this plant has 2 spikes and is growing a new leaf. On the spikes it has a keiki developing on each one and was also trying to bloom at the same time. The plant seems to be doing well, so I let it do what it wants to do but it really is pretty tiny.

My equestris keikis are doing almost exactly the same thing as yours. Longest leaf is also about 2in, and they both are growing a leaf and blooming at the same time. One also has the beginnings of a keiki on it too. I think this multitasking might also have to do with the genetics of the plant. My equestris hybrids tend to multitask much more than my other phals, even though they are all grown the same way.
