Hi Folks,

Last time I tried to explain how to post image hyperlinks it turned out that the few who understood the instructions felt it wasn't worth the bother. Admittedly, it is a bit tedious.

So with that in mind I created a page to construct the image hyperlinks for you. All that is required is the URL/address of the flickr photo page of the photo you would like to share.

What I do in Google Chrome is right click on the flickr thumbnail and select "Copy link address". I then paste that link address into the flickr to forum page and click "+Get Code". The code is automatically selected so you can just hit Ctrl + C to copy it.

With the flickr to forum page it only took a few seconds to create the code for all the photos and descriptions in the Encyclias for peeweelovesbooks thread.

The benefits of posting an image hyperlink are that it's easier for other flickr folk to favorite your photo and people are more likely to click on an image hyperlink versus a text hyperlink. Additionally, with the flickr to forum page you can include the description so you don't have to copy and paste it or type it twice.

***A few notes***

Haven't tested out the page much. I really have no idea what it looks like or whether it works in other browsers besides Google Chrome.

The large and original sizes are not always available and only image and hyperlink html will be converted to forum code. Previewing your posts before posting is always highly recommended.

All feedback or constructive criticism is welcome.

Great Idea... now I just need something like that for posting from Picasa

I like to see image links rather than text links as well and so I always take the time to use the steps in your post last time which work well from Picasa as well. Of course me being me I complicate it because I use a thumbnail size for the image that shows and a large size for the image it links too and so need two URLs (or at least for Picasa I do).

Is there any advantage to using an external site to host your photos instead of the Album feature provided here on the Orchidboard?

I do it because I am putting the photos on Picasa anyway to share with friends and family. As they are already there it's easy enough just to link to them.

Also as more and more photos go in to the albums here we keep needing more space for the OB server and that costs money. Only recently Marty sent out a message to try and raise money because he needs to upgrade the space/bandwidth on the server. As my photos are already hosted elsewhere it makes sence to me to not pinch more space on the OB server than I need.

In fact in the News/Updates/Feedback section he has just anounced some downtime to install a new harddrive.
