John, I am not a judge, but rhizome-cutting is apparently a no-no in the rule book. So is growing more than a single plant in a pot.

I have heard that chemical inducements are against the rules too, but 1) I don't know how one could tell, and 2) chemical treatment to induce polyploidy is OK, so why not others?

As I said, my understanding is that for judging purposes, it will disqualify the plant.

yah i wish that i didnt snip it though. i dunno why. but i wish i did keiki paste cuz i believe that it would look more natural if the growths just happened from the paste. Keiki pro the website for it shows it being used on dormant eyes on the plant and then an after photo of the new growths that resulted looks amazing! 24.99 bucks for a half ounce bottle though.
But the rhizome snipping caused new growth no more than a month or 2 months after snipping. So excited!

I've always done a version of rhizome snipping when repotting. If I want a bigger, fuller plant instead of more plants, I cut the rhizome about halfway from the bottom upward (hold your shears upsidedown), put a small piece of toothpick or pebble in the cut to hold it open, treat the cut, and repot. There's no way to tell the rhizome has been cut and this kind of cut is apparently enough to shock at least the dormant bud behind the cut to grow, sometimes more. Sometimes 2 cuts can be made. I'm not trying to beat the system by hiding the cut(s) from the judges but it does make an attractive realistic plant. The effect of the cut is probably similiar to treating the buds chemically.

That is SOO good to know! That is something i will have to try! i want my Purpurata Var. Carnea To be multigrowth. i wont cut it though i will try the keiki pro first. imagine all of those flowers! do you think if i put the paste on when the plants usually produce sheaths i will get multiple growths that will also produce sheaths? i mean when the plant on its own produces growths during blooming season it creates sheaths. so i wonder if it would be any different if i casued the growths to coincide with blooming season? do you think that would work Or Then also would it drain the plants energy?

I ask Because i read that Purpurata Var Carnea sets sheaths in winter! Mine is making a new growth, the eye on the one lead is swelling! if i do the keiki pro do you think i could get more than one sheath if it decides to produce any?
