Default Repotting Psychopsis Mariposa 'Magestic' (Kalahi x papilio)

Greetings everyone I have this Psychopsis that has been in constant bloom for the past two years that need to be repotted. It's in sphagnum in a clay pot and the moss has just about had it. Is there a good time to do this? In other words should I do it while in bloom or when the flowers drop off? Problem is it has four stems so at any given time there's a flower on the plant. Needless to say thank you all for any responses I receive to my inquiry.Thank you and
Donald in Worcester, MA

Hi Donald welcome to the OB. I don't beleive I've seen any of your post before. Then again I don't look at ALL post. Guess we all have our favorite areas of interest. I don't have Phychopsis but it is high on my want list. Glad for your post and will be looking for answers from our experts. Good luck with yours, sorry I can't help you at this time.

Default Psychopsis

Greetings Don. Thanks for the reply. If my memory serves me correctly I believe you had answered a question I had had back in the summer about a Phal type Dendrobium. I believe you have a friend in Leominister MA. Then again at my age maybe my memory isn't that good. Stay warm down there.

In my collection the Psychopsis plants appear to be constantly flowering from the same old yet living existing spikes and really do not mind being transplanted into new fresh medium once there is not much shock to their root system. I would carefully remove the plant from the clay pot and gently warm wash away the old sphagnum from the roots, cut away any dead old roots and replace with fresh pre-soaked sphagnum packed into the now available spaces. This does take a bit of time and patience and one of the benefits of using sphagnum moss is the ability to remove aged stale material from around roots without exerting radical damage to the plant. I hope that this is of some assistance.
