De-Flasking, Vanda's - Orchid Board

I needs some Advice plz!!

I de-flask some vanda's about a month ago. I did it the way the grower/seller told me to, Rueben.

He said to de-flask, and wash.
AND then, LAY the chids ON TOP of the Media mix.
Do not 'plant' them, But Lay them.

I don't know if this is correct or not??
But my babies don't seem to like it

What do you all do for De-flasking Vanda's?
Or de-flasking any type of chid??

This is how I have mine, the way the seller told me too.

Personally, I stand them up on very fluffy sphagnum, then put a dome over the tray to max out the humidity.

Don't forget that those babies have been in 100%RH for their whole lives, and it can be stressful to pluck 'em out into the air.

But I forgot to mention, I have a tall dome over the top of that tray too. I keep the 2 small vents on top open at all times. They stay humid. But I didn't know if the LAY down idea is best??

Jacky, I deflasked mine and A. layed them out in a tray of water with a slight amount of fertilizer, then sorta worked the gell like stuff off. I forgot what that's called. B. I stacked them all together in a pot so that they kept touching each other the same way they were in the flask. I have a picture in hre somewhere if you wanna see it. I hope this helps somewhat.

Swamper, do you still have them in the compots?
And are they happy and growing?

As I saw your thread with pics of you doing your de-flasking.

I see that you put leca or clay stones in the bottom of a clay pot, then made your compots of your vanda's.

Did you/do you water daily since there's not much moisture in those compots with those stones?
I just wondered if they'd be really dry coming from flask, then into those compots?

Did you keep them moist at all with humidity domes or something after taking them out of the flasks?

I must be totally different from anyone else on the board when i do Vandas.

I de-flask the plants, wash them and put them in a plastic basket.
Next i leave them in the basket for about a month and NO watering.
After that they get put onto some shadecloth that has been stretched to act like a table and the plants put on the cloth with the roots through the cloth to grow for about 6 months. The plants go into the regular watering program once they have been put on the shade cloth. After the shade cloth they get wired into pots with no media, and thats where they stay happily for the rest of their life.

LOL Rogerman, yea that is totally different than what I did.
Jacky, yes they are happy still and they are not in anything special like a dome or anything. I do water them. Actually I mist them every day and once a week I really water them as in under the sink, gentle cycle

The mist bottle has like a spec of fertilizer. I think I get more from it than they do. I watch them every day for burns, dryness .
I keep them right next to my baby ghosts which are covered for now in a dome/makeup getup I fixed up but probaby not needed either.

Thats how it is done here. We have higher temps and humidity here i suppose..... They do well too

The Vandas and Rhyn. never see any potting media at all and are very happy

Life is sooooo easy here.

Swamper, I potted them up today, about 5-8 in small 1.5" net pots. I used a tiny bit of moss on the bottom, and leca, and charcoal in between the plants. And no dome on top anymore.
The tiny pots are sitting on top of moist media for humidity.
Hopefully this is better. I wish I would've done this right away, instead of listening to the grower/seller, even though it was Ruben that told me. I figured it was best to listen to a pro grower that lives in my same climate. But oh well, that's what the OB is for
