Sorry Doc, but not true. Acephate (Orthene) is an organophosphate, and it's available.

Humm...I wonder what they are pumping out of those foggers that drive around in Orlando. I know it is for mosquito/bug control, but I wonder what the chemical is. All I know is that when I see them I close up the windows!

I'd just about bet it's Malathion.

I wouldn't be surprised! Could that effect flowering orchids if they are exposed?

Doubt it. Only affects insects, as best I know. (Or maybe cats and dogs and small children)

Two things concerning the "drive-around foggers":

1) As a kid in coastal NJ, we used to ride our bikes in the fog trails, as it was so much fun. It was a kerosene fog to lay on top of the water and suffocate mosquito larvae.

2) As an adult in coastal SC, we would get fogged daily - plus bombed from a C47 weekly - with malathion, so the mosquito population would be suppressed.

My wife and I went to LA about the time of the "Mediterranean Fruit Fly Crisis", and laughed at the folks whining about malathion spraying, figuring that without it in SC, we'd have malaria!
