Here is a slightly better picture of my new Polyrrhiza lindenii. It is three separate plants, two of which look like they have made it past the seedling stage. The plants are a lot smaller than the ghost orchid I bought and started this thread about. I have both of my leafless in a medium sized jar and since my first ghost rotted so quickly, I am only going to water once per week until March or April, then twice per week after that.

My Taeniopyllum hasseltii is sending up an inflorescence, as seen in the middle of the first photo.

My Dendrophylax lindenii is not looking so hot. I noticed that the mount it is on was absorbing and wicking water to the plant, so I think it was staying too wet. Also, I think my dad has been watering these two orchids with tap water and the Taeniophyllum has some burn on the roots and I don't think that it is getting too much sun, so I am not sure what else it could be.

I had some roots die back on my ghost orchid so I trimmed them off except for a little portion and glued them in place on the mount.

I put the plants out in dappled full January sun as it.was partly.clpudy and I have read that Dendrophylax lindenii likes Cattleya light levels so I think the plant will benefit if I put.it.out.in some sun every couple days. One of the problems with the cork mount wicking water up and staying wet is that it swelled up and the fishing line was cutting into the roots so I immediately cut off and glued the plants of the ghost in place instead.

Is that the plant in a completely sealed jar?

I've never grown ghosts but that seems dangerous. The cork is organic material.

I'd have the lid open. The Jar is pretty tall so will still maintain a decent humidity.

I have tried with many orchids in a completely sealed jar and it does not work long term.

What works better is having a layer of pumice or lecca at the bottom of the jar. Keep that moist all the time. Place the cork mount on top and keep the lid open.

The pumice should keep hydrated for about a week so humidity will stay just as high for that time but the open lid will allow for a little air exchange.
