Off the top of my head, I can't recall if that one is polyploid. Crossing it with another 4N would make sense and Harry may have done that to continue the breeding line.

However, he may have also taken a page from Roy's amethystoglossa breeding program and intentionally created a line of 3N plants so that no one else could use them in their breeding program! lol

I'm looking for a good amethystoglossa. I have H&R Supreme, and would like another.

I don't know what Roy may have said, but there are other reasons to breed triploids in lieu of tetraploids. Triploids tend to be faster growing and crossing a ?N with a known 2N can be used to discern ploidy levels. In triploid crosses the outcomes favor the characteristics of the 4N parent more than the 2N, for example.

Correct! Roy uses triploids to gain the same positives as tetraploids but without the ability to let breeders use his breeding program as a spring board for their own programs. Basically, he breeds awardable plants that can’t be bred.

I think you missed the point I was making. There are reasons to breed triploids other than to get sterile progeny. Another besides what I mentioned is that a 2N crossed with a 4N will produce different results than a 4N crossed with a 4N. But perhaps Ray said he did it to protect his breeding program.

Yes he did. And I did not miss your points.
