I grew up and had always lived in a northern tier mountain area [WA. and AK].
Weather has always been a major consideration for me.
Having always lived in Mountain Weather, because of it's variability, I've always tried to track it for recreation and daily living purposes.

NWS only gives one a guess as to what is, or will be happening.
Growing orchids outdoors here in HI had intensified my need to follow weather reports and trends.

I have finally purchased a Personal Weather Station [PWS].
I got it installed 3 or 4 days ago and am now following my personal weather situation more closely than I have ever been able to do before.
I'm already finding that I had built a few misconceptions as to my weather situation.
My station is set to upload it's observations to online.

Now that I live on a barrier island, the weather has become more of a focus for me, as well - not only for my plants, but for boating and fishing.

I received an Accurite station as a Christmas present, but it became inaccurate and was finally done in by a hurricane. About a year ago I replaced it with a solid-state device, a Tempest from Weatherflow, and it has been rock solid.

We've had personal weather stations for many years now. I'm so used to it, I'd be lost without one. It's the first thing I look at when I get up in the morning.

Ours have always been by Acu-Rite, and they are fine for our needs, though I know there are a number of other high-quality models by other manufacturers. We just had to replace one of the display units that was quite old. We have three of them in various places in the house. They all work off the same sensor unit on the roof.

I do notice that summertime temps on a sunny day will always measure a little higher than actual temp, and the wind speed usually shows only about half actual speed, but both of these are due to placement of the sensor and could be improved if we wanted to go to the trouble of moving it.

Of course I still have one of those old-fashioned thingies called a thermometer on my front porch, and when I want to know what the actual temperature is outside, as accurately as possible, that's the one I look at.

That Tempest looks very nice, but it is pricey. As I mentioned, we have been happy with our Acu-Rite model for many years. This one is similar to what we have, for less than half the price of the Tempest. No apps for remote reading, etc., but plenty of basic information about temp, humidity, rainfall, wind, etc.

Edit: Okay, I'm not able to post a link for some reason. Just go to Amazon and do a search for Acu-Rite weather station. They make a large number of different models, and the one we have is shown as being around $129.

Love this display WW. My kind of weather predicting. I have an indoor digital that also tell the south side outdoor temp, If I want a forecast, I check 10 PM channel 13.
