From the reviews, Adblock Plus may remove more ads, but it requires more computational resources. Here are the links:
uBlock Origin for chrome
uBlock Oriding for firefox
Adblock Plus

So I'm pretty sure this is the cause for my case.
I'm going to try this. It sounds like a good solution.

As a supporter I don't get ads. I still have issues. Yesterday and today were horrible at times.
Is that different than ad blocking
?

Hmmm, maybe slow ad servers aren't the only problem then. Even with ad blocking, there were a few times when loading of the pages get stuck. The frequency of this seems to be much much lower with the blocker, but it is difficult to compare since it is intermittent.

I'm testing my connectivity. WiFi sucks, and on LAN I don't have to wait so much. Sometimes the connection is fast, sometimes slow, but it hasn't timed out.

Mine has 10 Mb download speed and 0,83 Mb upload. Ping is 19 ms.
Obviously this varies with the site you're trying to connect to, in this case OB server.
I could think there could be some constraint between my computer and OB server but, because we have members from all over the world, there are thousand of different paths.
This means the constraint is somewhere "near" the OB server or the server itself.

Adblock plugins might work in some particular cases but won't solve the problem. Sooner or later it will happen again.

I hope Marty makes an appearance and addresses the issue soon.

Is it something the members can help with (technical or monetarily)? If he is no longer interested, perhaps the members can co-op it, find sponsors (still maintain the current open policy).

It would be a shame to let the board slide into disuse because of the slow page load.

I sure wish there could be a resolution to this issue. I like the co-op idea and I would be willing to support the site financially if I had some idea of what the money was being spent for.

There are lots of free boards. Some limitations, obviously, but can be unblocked for less than 20 USD/year.
For free all the main/needed tools are available.
That's an option.

I believe that part-, if not most of the issue is ad placement, which is done to provide revenue to the forum owner.

Ads are "served" to this site from other servers, so each time a page here is requested by your browser, it must load from the forum's server, then the ads have to load from their respective servers, and all of those lag-times add up. If one of them is having an issue, it really slows things down.

Becoming a supporter of this forum may block the ads from being displayed, but they still have to be loaded.
