Problems On The Site

I have always had issues while visiting here.
Many times while typing my own post/reply when I hit the submit button I get told I'm not logged in.

Same thing if I spend a lot of time reading a thread, when I go to leave it or move on to another page of the thread I get told I'm no longer logged in.

Another issue I'm having is many times (but not all) I try to move around the site it takes forever to leave or load a page.
I've hit to refresh and I get dizzy watching the little arrow go round and round for several minutes.

The thing that seems to help is opening another window and coming to the site on the new one then just closing the one that's stuck.
But I quickly have the issue happen again on this new window.

I do not have anything like this happening on any other sites that I visit.

Is there any help I can get or ideas that I can try?

I actually had to re-login just to reply. I'm having exactly the same issues as you and the time it takes to load a page is unbelievable. I hope someone will see this and can help, I get so frustrated I give up and head over to eBay.

I'm having the same issue with the page loads. Occasionally it takes a really long time for a page to load. My browser is Google Chrome and my OS is Windows 7.

And yeah, our experience visiting here would be much nicer if we could navigate easier/quicker.

I think slow page load time is related to how much it costs to run a site with a quick response time. I don't know whether the current advertising and subscriptions even pay for the cost of running Orchid Board. I suspect more money would solve the response time issue. That's why I became a supporting member.

Even if page loads are slow, there is a huge amount of information here. I think it's worth the aggravation. I remember years ago. I had to drive to the library to look for orchid books, then find them checked out to somebody else, then drive home empty-handed and without the information I wanted. That was why I bought an incredibly expensive book in the early 1970s, for the sum of $18.95, an enormous expenditure for a high school student. Now I can find even more information at my fingertips, and communicate daily with people all over the world who know much more than I do about orchids.

As for losing posts... I'm not sure how this site runs, but a page keeps the connection to the server for a varying length of time. You may have noticed your bank will log you off after a certain time of no response. You can compose your message in a text editor, and when you are satisfied with it, open an Orchid Board page and paste your message into the box. I often post the text first, to be sure it makes it to the Board, and go back and add the photo later.

I have the same problem and have had for a long time now. I was wondering if I became a supporter if it would help. Sometimes it absolutely will not let me into a thread. I find if I just go back out of here and come back in it helps for a bit.

Same problems here and it's actually caused me to spend a lot less time on the board. I usually only have a few minutes between tending to the kids and taking care of everything that needs doing

Shannon, I know how you feel. I've not been on much in the last year for these issues. I love the site and enjoy everyone's help and information....when I can. There are other places to get that information online. Last night I gave up and bought a Dendrobium cucumerinum on eBay, much more satisfying!

I never get logged out. Sometimes a page takes a min to load but then I think maybe a couple people are trying to post at the same time. If it get bogs down I close the page and then retry it.

It's good to copy a post before you try to reply in case of problems, especially if it is a long one. Then if it doesn't load right you can reload and paste your reply.
