Possible issues accessing with iPad? Male
Question Possible issues accessing with iPad?

Hi. I'm just wondering if anyone knows of any problems accessing these forums with an iPad? I'm getting failed or long load times pretty often. I'd prefer not to use the mobile app...

I do most of my accessing from my iPad and it is successful the great majority of the time. I periodically had a post fail to load and it hangs up. I then close off Tapatalk that I use and relaunch it and things usually go fine. Some pictures can also be a bit slow to load. Overall, I like the way this and the other two orchid forums I use work with Tapatalk. If I have some extensive work to do on a forum with back searching, loading a post with a picture, etc, I will do it on my iMac.

This forum is plagued with intermittent loading delay issues.

I alternate between using my Windows desktop computer and my I-Pad without the app to look at Orchid Board. It seems to be VERY slow lately on either application so I don't think it is your I-Pad. Just now on my Windows computer I had to try 3 times to load this thread. I don't know what is going on. It certainly isn't my internet connection which is fast for everything else.

Yes, I use a windows machine and this site is often VERY SLOW. I don't have a problem anywhere else.

Hmm, seems like we have some performance problems. I've not noticed it but I'm here at a quiet time of day.

That could mean that the number of people accessing the forum at some times of day is more than it can cope with

Fixing that is likely to mean upgrading the servers (this is my guess, I don't know the details), however that takes two things, time and money, two things I know Marty/Orchid Board don't have. I get the impression that the forum is struggling to cover costs (if it even does), though I don't know for sure. Marty has said that the google adds are bringing in a lot less than they used

Hmm, I will report back to him but we may be stuck with it for now at least. A victim of our own popularity!

I figured it would be a server problem and not an easy fix or update which is why I didn't report it. But it is getting to where something may have to be done. I find myself feeling impatient at times! I know we all get spoiled with everything at the click of a button so the wait probably isn't as long as it seems. But its all relative....

I also find some pages slow to load. Not sure if it's linked to the number of people using it, since I have the problem even in the morning, when most of the US is still asleep. But it usually fixes itself after a minute or two, so it's not too bad, and it's not the super long downtime we used to have some years ago. Though I have to say that it seems to be a problem on the computer (windows and chrome) and not on my tablet or phone (I don't like tapatalk so use the website).

I never realized how costly in time and money it was to maintain a server until my boyfriend got one last year. And his is on the small side, hosting only our cloud storage and email accounts. Compared to that, the time and money needed for the OB server must be enormous.

I paid to become a supporting member because I have learned such an enormous amount here. It is well worth the price. Just think about the cost of orchids you didn't kill because you learned how to take care of them here.

I think I would be willing to pay as well, but now don't remember how to do it.
