Default Today's posts

[QUOTE=WhiteRabbit;538389]Hello all!

For some time, I have been thinking that many members may not know about the Today's Posts link. Using it will show all threads that have been started, or have new posts in the past 24 hour period. The New Posts link refreshes often, so in my opinion, using the Today's Posts is the best way to go!

Today's Posts can be found under the Quick Links button/menu to the right side of the Forum Menu bar near the top of the page.

Give it a try!
I am just wondering why some of my posts show up in the section I choose, but they don't show up in the "new posts" section. Since most people look there first, I wonder if many people see my posts.

"New posts" seems to refresh fairly often, and so may not show all new posts since your last visit - which is why I prefer the "today's posts" option better. "Today's posts" includes all new threads and posts in the past 24 hours.

I do believe that people may miss posts when they only use the "new posts" option - that is why I, when I first visit the board, go to "Today's posts", and start at the oldest ones to try to make sure that threads don't get over-looked.

This is so much better than the new posts button, thanks!

But my favorite button is on Tapatalk: the "Participated" button!

Thanks for that. I didn't know it was there until you showed it. I will use it from now on,

Theoretically 'New Posts' is everything since you last logged in. I can come here sometimes and have a week or more worth of posts, and if I want to sit down and catch up I prefer that to the more limited 'Todays'.

HOWEVER... I have found that if you use Tapa Talk with the forum then Tapa Talk does background checks to see if there are any notifications to give you related to the forum. It seems that each time it does one of those checks the forum counts that as a login, therefore 'New Posts' resets (resets in the browser not just in Tapa Talk).

If, after using the forum on Tapa Talk, you tell it to log out of the forum (out of the forum not tapa talk) then it doesn't reset the 'New Posts'. Most of the time my Tapa Talk is not logged in and my 'New Posts' list will always accurately match all those posts since I last logged in.

A year or so ago I also tried turning off notifications on tapa talk to try and stop it doing this, but that didn't work. However at the time there was a know issue between the older plug in (on this site) and the newer version of Tapa Talk which meant that turning off notifications did not work correctly. I don't know if that is still the same or not.

Oh and if you log in, then don't click on anything for 15 min it will reset 'New Posts' as well. This is the time-out for the forum deciding you have closed the page without logging out. If you have the 'remember me' option turned on you don't notice that it actually logs you out after 15min of inactivity, but it does (just logs you straight back in again with that option). This can be annoying if you spend a long time trying to type one post (I use the 'preview changes' regularly in long posts to stop that).
