speaking of spam, i dont know if this is or is not but check this out:

http://www.orchidboard.com/community...l-orchids.html

it was in todays new posts. a new member giving GREAT feedback to bill_asia, of ALL people. i was about to make a comment and thought about it for a second related back to how some spammers just advertise in clever ways like maybe this post could be.

Hopefully its just an innocent post from a dedicated user but knowing just how bad service from this particular seller is, i found the comment fishy. perhaps its himself trying to pitch good reviews to change our minds or something like that. i appologize if im snitching or making wrongful accusations :/

Is a Social Group that just has a link to a commercial website considered spam?

I'm going to ask Sue her opinion on that one. Personally I would say yes it's spam, but I don't actually have access to do anything about it anyway, so I'll see what Sue has to say.

I seem to only find spam that has the world "gold" in every sentence. None of those ever make sense. I gave an infraction on one post and that pretty much took care of that spammer! The mods do an excellent job of taking care of the spammers. I rarely ever see spam posts and when I do I get excited that I can issue them an infraction. It's like I get to smack them around a little for junking up this awesome board!

the gold posts come from someone that uses a name such as stuvw10 as an example always a sequence of letters of the alphabet and a number, location is Canada . I was giving a banned infraction for awhile but seems that does not work anymore so I quit giving any ..

One problem is that if you give a spammer infraction to someone with no posts then Tindo and I can't actually give a full ban. It's down to a broken link in the moderator control panel which Marty's not been able to fix. We can only give a full ban as part of the process of deleting their posts.

I believe one's with that infraction still can't post, but they stay in the list but there are often names so similar with the pattern of letters and numbers that it's difficult to tell.

And that's the second problem. I think these are generated by a 'bot' not a real person and they will just keep coming. We have to keep doing everything we can to stop them, but they WILL just keep coming

When I get chance I was planning on drawing up a list of all the ones I had not been able to ban and getting Sue to do it.

I actually found a different one to you Jim and Sue deleted that one for me. Since then I have found I CAN delete social groups and I've deleted the one you PM'd me about.

I can't give a full ban to the users (same reason as my post above) but I've given infractions to these and I'll ask Sue to do a full ban.

So in answer to the question... YES. Social groups whose description fits the spam message criteria at the top of this post are also considered spam and we will remove them. I'm not sure there is an option to report the group so either post a link here if you spot one, or send a PM to the moderators.
