In the meanwhile I got a group up and running. It's meant as a back up to stay in touch with each other in case orchidboard.com goes offline for some reason.

The group is very basic, I (we?) will fine tune settings if needed. Most important is that we have a back up to stay in touch if we need it...

To join you have to identify yourself with the username you use on orchidboard.com. This is an OrchidBoard members only group.

It's public and set up as a private group.

I'll allow new members as quickly as I can, but keep in mind, for most of you I'm in a different timezone, I'm living in Europe. Behind the scenes we are working on a Admin/mod team to help me.

My username for the Facebook group OrchidBoard Members is 'Blueszz Orchid'.

We will post a sticky too to announce the Facebook group. That way the group is easier to find for all members.

I found that forum I like uses UBB 6.5.

I would think that if the DNS was no longer valid, all browsers would get an HTTP: 404 NOT FOUND error.

It doesn't fail to resolve, the expired DNS registration for the "faunatopsites.com" ad just means that the name now points to a "parking" server/site that returns no contents. There is no issue with orchidboard.com itself.

Depending on the browser that may show differently, typically as a broken link icon in the frame where the ad would normally appear, but the rest of the page displays normally.

I am probably in the minority here, but I'm not a fan of Facebook and don't even have a FB account. BUT...I agree that is probably the easiest way for us die-hard OB members to reconnect if we happen to lose this site.

My husband has a FB account that he uses very rarely, but if I absolutely needed to look at something on FB, he doesn't mind if I go into his account. If worse comes to worst and FB is the only way we can communicate in the future, I think I can get something called a private FB account, which I would be willing to do.
