There's another spam article on the front page. Would it be possible to disable the posting of new articles? Everything that has been posted in the articles section within the past year would be more appropriate in one of the forums. If the articles are not being used for their intended purpose, it might be better to restrict posts to an area where moderators can deal with them, instead of waiting a couple days for an administrator to remove spam.
I already contacted an admin about it, so it won't be there for more than a day or so.
Personally I don't see spam as a reason to close that section. Spam there is rare and we always get rid of it, even if it takes a bit longer! Unless spammers get into the habit of posting there, I don't think we need to change anything for now.
Agreed. It's important not to overreact. So long as the moderators are on top of things and are sure to ban the spammers, it will send the message that the spammers are wasting their time.
I just don't get why they would think Orchid Forum members would be interested in what they are trying to peddle . I think most of the spam is a spam bot .
I think the reason for targeting OB is that the forum is ranked pretty high in the search engines. I could be wrong, but let's say someone is googling for a Chanel bag for instance, they may end up on with the spammed thread in the search results.
Good suggestions... I made few changes. The articles have not been used as intended and the front page of OB is pretty useless, so I decided to forward anyone going to orchidboard.com to be pushed to the forum page since that's where the action is. I also removed the links to posting articles. One more thing I did was installed anti spamming software which should prevent a lot of the bots from posting garbage on OB. Hopefully will be a bit sunnier here and on topic
