Your small cutting has a new growth starting upon one of the leaf nodes, so it doesn't look like your cutting is doing poorly at all. Roots on
Vanilla are easily and quickly replaced by the vine.
Don't worry about this species. If you fail, you can always ask a member for a piece, or find a VERY cheap piece (less than $10 or shipping costs). Good luck!
