Hi Stephen,
that's an interesting project. Hope I could help with some pics. Unfortunatelly, I have no clowesiis in my collection...
However, just for clarification. I do not know of any orchid genus named "Clowesii", but ok, there many hundreds genera in the family that probably at least one could have been honored to Rev Clowes. Anyway, I think it is more a misunderstanding in the Taxonomy and you are referring to different "clowesii" species (this also makes sense with the ending in the name "...sii".
You have
Anguloa clowesii Google-Ergebnis für http://www.dkimages.com/discover/previews/905/689427.JPG which is avery well know plant.
Also quite well know is
Miltonia clowesii IOSPE PHOTOS
also
Epidendrun clowesii Orquidario Virtual » Blog Archive » Epidendrum clowesii which I did not know until I found it right now by chance while googling for the oictures to be posted in this message

Probably, there many other species with this name. Especially, if Rev Clowes was such a great collector at that time and was paying expeditions to go to collect new plants in Latin-America.
What about making a reference in your article to the Orchid Board, the coolest orchids plattform on the web?
